  • Why is it so hard to find employment in the freight industry ? 19 Sep 2017

I've been put in a very bad situation, and since end June I've been sending out my CV like crazy look and searching for employment. I'm a single breadwinner with 3 children, I've got a lot of experience with qualifications, and yes, I'm still learning, but because I don't have a degree, I will not even be looked at. I'm sorry but I did not get the memo where it was declared that a certain piece of paper is actually doing the job and not experience, knowledge, passion, the love of being in the freight industry, a human, a mother. I'm in the freight industry for almost 28 years, with a lot of experience, a lot of knowledge to pass on to the younger generation, but it seems just impossible to find employment.

    • My dream job still remains in the freight industry, I love the adrenaline rush, that's my passion, I love the stress, the pressure the good and the bad that goes with the freight industry. Being in the freight industry is a challenge and you must be able to think on your feet. You must be able to put a workable solution in place even before the problem happens. My career started with a little Chinese man, who gave me an opportunity, who gave me a career, and today, almost 28 years later, I haven't looked back once. I've learned a lot, and have even more to give. It's just a pity that the freight industry does not have a place for me. If I have to tell you how many times I've send out my CV, I can fill an encyclopedia with the emails alone, and guess what ? The agents does not even call you back. Yes, some of them do, maybe once, but that it. And 90% of the time, I have to hear, sorry but the position is filled already, then why advertise it ? I miss my life in the freight industry, I miss the people, I miss the challenges, yes, I even miss the issues with Customs.

hello! the problem i am facing is surely experienced by many, we get our logistics qualification then when we apply for jobs they want us to have an experience of more than a year. how do we get that when our institutions dont offer practicals. and again the internships are so few.

    • I hear your problem, but let me tell you something, I'm in the freight industry for almost 28 years, and I'm struggling to get a job. It's either because I don't have a degree, or too much of this or too little of that. I just don't know anymore
